Residential Reverse Osmosis Filtration Solutions
Some households may need both filtration and softening, and that makes reverse osmosis (RO) an attractive solution. An RO system is a type of water filter that works differently than a traditional water purifier. It uses high water pressure to reverse the natural process of osmosis, which is where water moves from a low to a high concentration. In doing so, it leaves behind nearly 100% of the substances that negatively impact water quality.
All whole-home RO solutions, water filters, and water softeners are point-of-entry (POE) systems. That means they function between your water main and your home’s plumbing. This approach assures that the system purifies all your water before it enters your household.
There are two important considerations for any POE system: flow rate and volume. The industry measures flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM). Most homes will need about 5 GPM, and there are systems that provide double that and more. A high enough volume ensures the system meets the overall needs of the household. This is crucial for RO and water softener systems that must treat the water in advance rather than on demand.
